Women's Soccer Hands No.19 Maryville First Loss of Season

Gleckler tallies fours assists with Cormier, Mauch each firing two goals

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. - McKendree University women's soccer (7-1-4, 7-1-1 GLVC) got back in the win column on Sunday afternoon with a commanding trouncing of the 19th-ranked Maryville Saints as two Bearcats each fired two goals, pushing their squad to the road victory. The Bearcats jumped all over the Saints as junior midfielder Maggie Gleckler found herself assisting on all goals while junior defender Zoe Cormier and sophomore forward Maddie Mauch each tallied a pair of scores. McKendree recovered from its tough 1-0 loss to UMSL on Friday with an aggressive attack, finding its four goals in the Sunday bout at Maryville. McKendree stays on the road for its next conference matchup as the Bearcats first get their 'bye' on October 17 before heading up to Illinois Springfield on October 19 to face off against the Prairie Stars at Noon in Springfield, Illinois.

McKendree dropped its first contest of the 2025 campaign prior to Sunday's matchup but shook off every ounce of the Friday game, evident by the early jump the Bearcats made over the Saints. The first half saw McKendree take a 1-0 advantage over No.19 Maryville just four minutes into the game on a corner kick from Gleckler. Gleckler's cross into the box connected with the head of Cormier and found the back of the net, putting McKendree into the lead over its local-foe. Then in the 16th minute, Gleckler put a ball out to Mauch who corralled the dish out and scored the eventual game-winner, which placed the Bearcats at a 2-0 advantage in that moment. Just minutes after Mauch's first score of the day and sixth of the campaign, she received another dish out from Gleckler and added McKendree's third goal of the day in the 23rd minute. As the Bearcats held a 3-0 advantage, Maryville found a score to cut the lead behind a strange caroming ball that fled just beyond the reach of junior goalkeeper Peyton Baker. The Bearcats headed into the intermission with a 3-1 lead over the Saints.

In the second half, McKendree continued pushing deep into the Saints' territory with threatening positions, finding an additional insurance score in the 78th minute. The fourth goal of the day for the Bearcats came off another corner by Gleckler, who positioned her cross out to Cormier, who headed her second goal of the day. McKendree held strong on the defensive side of the ball with the Saints putting up 14 shots with four on-frame in the second half, all of which were thwarted by Baker. The Bearcats kept their three-goal lead through the final horn with Baker finishing the day with seven saves over full time in goal.

With her four assists on the day, Gleckler tied the program's record for single-game assists in the NCAA Division II era. (Chelsea Whittaker - 9/4/2016 vs OCU)
