Bearcats Tally 27 Podium Finishes in Win Over Saint Louis

O'FALLON, Ill. – The McKendree Men's Swim and Dive team racked up 27 total podium finishes in the dual meet against Saint Louis at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex on Saturday. 

In the first event of the day, Caden Brooks, Atticus Sternke, Vova Gavrysh and Tyson Upton took first in the 400-yard medley relay finishing with a time of 3:22.07. Joining them on the podium was David Hammond, Patrick Cramer, Daniel de Oliveira and Phineas Theall claiming third place with 3:30.49 on the clock. 

The 1000-yard freestyle saw Jakub Rynkiewicz finish in 9:28.71 with the next closest person being 18 seconds behind him. Noah Brereton earned a third-place finish in the event with a time of 9:46.43.  

Gavrysh claimed his first of two individual wins in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:37.95. His other win came in the 500-yard freestyle with a division two best time of 4:32.83. Behind him on the podium for the 200-yard freestyle was Luis Villalobos Matson stopping the clock at 1:45.34.  

Joey Ovanic swam a new season best in the 100-yard backstroke to win the event with a time of 51.28. Brooks was right on his heels with 51.58 to earn a second-place finish in the event. He would later gain another second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a season best time of 1:53.16. 

Sternke also earned a new season best in the 100-yard breaststroke with 59.51 and a second-place finish.  

Carson Olson captured his first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a new personal best of 1:55.01. Luke Ashbury got his podium finish in the event coming in right behind Olson with a time of 1:56.80. 

De Oliveria swam a season best in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly with a time of 21.50 to earn second in the event and 49.79 to get his individual event win. 

Upton obtained his individual win in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.39, which was also a season best for him. Kandence Griffen got a third-place finish in the event with a time of 48.01. 

Brooks, Rynkiewicz, and Brereton swept the podium in the 400-yard individual medley, gaining 16 points alone for the Bearcats.  

Adin Peper and Finn Moseley competed in the one- and three-meter diving events. Peper totaled 384.23 points, and Moseley had 317.63 points on the day.    

The team would win the meet with a score of 165 to 129.  

Next, McKendree will be traveling to Columbia, Missouri for a dual meet with the University of Missouri on November 1st. The competition will be at 10 AM and be held at the Mizzou Aquatic Center.
