LEBANON, Ill. – McKendree's women's volleyball succumbed to the Hawks of Rockhurst University in three straight sets. The finals scores were 20-25, 18-25, 17-25.
The Bearcats drop to 5-21 overall, 3-9 in conference.
In the first set, McKendree had the 4-2 advantage over the Hawks. Back-to-back points for Rockhurst tied the score a 4-4, and from there the score went back and forth with both teams trading points. At 17-18, the Bearcats went on a three-point run to give them a two-point advantage over the Hawks at 20-18. Rockhurst then went on a seven-point run to take the set 20-25.
McKendree and Rockhurst opened set two trading points until the Hawks went on a nine-point run to give them an eight-point advantage early in the set at 4-12. From there, points were trading with small runs throughout, but the deficit was too daunting for the Bearcats to overcome. Rockhurst took the set 18-25.
The third set started with a three-point run by the Hawks broken up by a McKendree point, followed by a seven-point run by Rockhurst putting them up 1-10. The Bearcats went on a three-point run of their own to cut the deficit in half at 6-12, but Rockhurst responded with a four-point run. This extended their lead to 6-16. The Hawks and Bearcats traded points back and forth the remainder of the final set with the Hawks taking the set and match 17-25.
Up next, McKendree is back at home tomorrow (11/15) for Senior Day. The Bearcats will take on William Jewell at 3:00 pm.
