No.24 Women's Soccer Draws At Quincy; Claims Regular Season Crown and #2 Seed in GLVC Tournament

Bearcats clinch their share of the GLVC Regular Season title with result against Hawks

LEBANON, Ill. - No.24 McKendree University women's soccer (11-1-5, 11-1-2 GLVC) closed out the regular season this weekend, staking claim to another Great Lakes Valley Conference regular season title after finishing with a 0-0 draw at Quincy on Sunday, putting them tied atop the league and earning them the #2 seed in the upcoming GLVC Championship Tournament due to tiebreakers. The Bearcats tallied 35 points on the year in conference play which locked up a share of the regular season title with UMSL and then earned the 24th-ranked Bearcats the #2 seed after tie breakers. McKendree plays host for the first round of the conference's championship tournament with seventh-seeded Lewis coming to Leemon Field on Sunday, November 9 for a 12:00PM kick off. 

McKendree played out a long, tough contest with Quincy to close out the regular season, ending in a nil-nil result for one point in the conference standings. The Bearcats mustered 10 shots with four being put on frame, two in each half but were unable to break through to capture the result and claim the top-seed in the league's tournament next week. On the day, junior defender Zoe Cormier ad junior midfielder Maggie Gleckler led the way with shots on-goal, as Cormier peppered the keeper with three and Gleckler fired one. On the opposite end of the pitch, junior goalkeeper Peyton Baker earned her ninth shutout of the season as she collected four saves on the day. With the result, the 24th-ranked Bearcats owned a six-game unbeaten streak (5-0-1) to tie up the end fo the regular season campaign and add a 10th-straight double-digit win season and 11th at .500-or-better (NCAA DII era).

The Bearcats claimed another regular season crown with their outstanding season and will head into postseason play as the #2 seed in the conference tournament after tiebreakers put UMSL as the top seed. McKendree sets up to face off against Lewis in the quarterfinal round, with the match up this season going in favor of the Bearcats, 1-0, on October 26.

The last time the Flyers and Bearcats met in the GLVC Tournament was 2023 in the Championship game, where the Bearcats claimed their fourth tournament title, grounding the Flyers, 1-0.
