LEBANON, Ill. – The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) announced on Thursday, December 17th the NCAA Division II All-America recipients, with junior attacker Armand Le Goff (Reims, France) earning a spot on the First Team.
Le Goff is the fifth McKendree Men's Water Polo player to receive this national honor on the first team and is the ninth player to be recognized regardless of team placement (first team and honorable mention). This is coming off the heels of an impactful junior campaign for the attacker, who was recently tabbed to the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) First Team All-Conference with two WWPA Offensive Player of the Week selections this season.
"We are extremely happy for Armand to be recognized by the ACWPC," said Head Coach Miguel Figueras. "It has been an honor to coach him and get to know him this season. We appreciate everything he does for our team and how he continues to serve as a great ambassador for our school. Armand is a great friend to all his teammates and is very fun to be around. I know his family in France is extremely proud of him, as well. While it may have taken longer than expected, his parents finally convinced him to give up his dream as a figure skater to pursue water polo. Although he misses his time on the ice, deep down, we know he is grateful for where he is right now. Congratulations, Armand!"
The Frenchman led the team this season in several statistical categories with 125 points, 85 goals, 40 assists, and 21 field blocks (all but assists were single-season program records), and supplemented with 31 steals and 38 drawn exclusions. He also shot 85-for-175 on the net (48.6%) and earned nine sprint wins on 33.3% succession.
Le Goff appeared numerous times on the conference leaderboard and was top-10 in the WWPA in total goals (4th – 85), total assists (7th – 40), total points (3rd – 125), field blocks (2nd – 21), goals per game (3rd – 3.5), assists per game (T-4th – 1.7), and points per game (3rd – 5.2).
The attacker was immense to the Bearcats' success this season, who won 10+ games for the first time in five years with an 11-13 overall record and an even 2-2 mark in WWPA play. The team also had three-game win streaks on three separate occasions in the season.
