O'FALLON, Ill. | McKendree Metro Rec Plex - No.4 / third-seeded McKendree University women's hockey (24-7, 10-4) fell in the opening round of the WMCH Conference Championship on Thursday afternoon, 3-2, against sixth-seeded / No.13 Jamestown, coming up just short in its comeback attempt against the Jimmies. The Bearcats tallied their scores behind junior forward
Kerstyn Barron and senior forward Kiley Hasnefratz but were unable to add a game-tying score late, dropping to Jamestown in the first day of action in O'Fallon. McKendree will be back on the ice on Friday in the consolation round of the WMCH Tournament.
The Bearcats and Jimmies met for a third matchup this season, as McKendree took the two regular season contests, 4-0 and 4-2, battling early in the first period for the advantage. Jamestown held a 1-0 lead half way through the period before junior forward
Kerstyn Barron fired a goal in her return to the ice, knotting the game at 1-1. Junior forward
Janaya Laqua dished out the helper on the play. In the closing minutes of the initial period, Jamestown took a one-goal lead behind a 19th minute score at 1-1.
The second period saw the Jimmies add another goal to their advantage in the ninth minute, going up 3-1. McKendree didn't stop pushing, cutting its deficit to just one score with a goal in the 20th minute of the second period by senior forward

Aria Groot assisted on the goal. McKendree trailed 3-2 following the second period.
McKendree fired 13 shots on goal in the last period of the quarterfinal contest, unable to capitalize on the attempts, falling 3-2 to No.13 / sixth-seeded Jamestown. Senior goaltender Bri Burke collected 19 saves over full time in goal during the effort.
