INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. | Great Lakes Valley Conference - McKendree University softball (3-1) garnered its first GLVC weekly honor on Monday afternoon as junior outfielder
Laynee Tapp was named Player of the Week, as announced by the league office. Tapp, who joined the Bearcats this past fall as a transfer from Crowder, recorded a season-opening slash of .667/.778/.833 to begin her time as a Bearcat while fielding at a perfect clip in the outfield. Tapp and the Bearcats look to build on a strong start to the season as they hit the road for the Alvy Early Memorial Classic, which is held in Bentonville, just down the road from Tapp's hometown of Centerton, Arkansas on February 7 and 8. McKendree will face Arkansas Tech, Harding, Missouri Southern, and East Central in the two-day outing.
Tapp went 4 for 6 overall on the weekend with three walks while posting a slugging percentage of .833 and an on-base percentage of .778. She tallied four RBIs while scoring two runs, hitting one double, and going one for one on stolen base attempts. The junior outfielder went for hits in three of four games while tallying RBIs in three of four games, including a 2-for-2 performance over Ashland and a two RBI-one run game against Cedarville. In the field, Tapp collected 15 putouts while starting all four games for the Bearcats.
Following the first weekend of action, Tapp leads McKendree in batting average (.667), on-base (.778), slugging (.833), and OPS (1.611).
