Baseball Drops Road GLVC Series

ROLLA, Mo. – The McKendree Bearcats dropped their second consecutive GLVC series in as many weekends. They were able to take the second game of the series from the hosts, Missouri S&T Miners in a pitchers' duel.

Game 1 – Friday, March 21

Adam Keeney would get the ball to start the series. He lasted two innings allowing five runs on four hits and six walks. Trailing 5-0 through the opening two innings, the Bearcats scored their lone run on a wild pitch as Chyran Cruse came home.

The Miners added seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings to enact the run-rule and take the game 12-1 in seven innings.

Game 2 – Saturday, March 22

The second game of the series was a low scoring affair as both pitching staffs were locked in. Locked in a scoreless contest entering the top of the fourth, Isaiah Hoelscher hit a sacrifice fly to left field that brought home Kaid Muth to give McKendree the 1-0 lead. S&T tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single.

In the top of the 5th, Elisha Sergeant led off the inning with a walk. Two batters later, Peyton Bittle hit a two-run home run to left field to give the Bearcats the 3-1 lead. The Miners got back to within one run in the bottom of the 5th with a sacrifice fly to center field. S&T tied the contest at 3 on a balk by the McKendree pitcher.

In the top of the 7th, McKendree got men on first and second with two outs. Javy Garcia hit an RBI single to left field that scored Muth to give McKendree the lead and the win.

Bryce Humphrey worked around an error to seal the deal and pick up the win.

Game 3 – Saturday, March 22

Game three of the series had a slow start just like game 2, until the Miners scored runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to give them the 5-0 lead. The lone Bearcat run was on a Javy Garcia RBI single in the 6th to score Cruse.

The Miners added three more runs to take the game by the score of 8-1. Cody Bledsoe went five innings, giving up eight hits and five runs (four earned).

Game 4 – Sunday, March 23

The Bearcats got on the board first in the final game of the series with an Isaiah Hoelscher infield single to score Kaid Muth with the bases loaded. After S&T tied the game in the bottom of the second, they broke the contest open with six in the bottom of the 3rd.

S&T added two more runs in the bottom of the 4th and the 7th to end the game in seven innings.
