Late Spark Lifts Women's Soccer over Bulldogs

Andrews, Gleckler score decisive goals to level and lead game

LEBANON, Ill. | Leemon Field - With a late spark and two decisive goals, McKendre Univeristy women's soccer (1-0-4, 1-0-1 GLVC) pushed past Trumans State on Friday evening, 2-1, collecting three points and remaining unbeaten on the campaign. After trailing early in the second half, junior forward Aubrey Andrews knotted the game in the 81st before junior midfielder Maggie Gleckler blasted the game-winner in the 86th. McKendree continues onward with its conference slate on Sunday, September 21 against William Jewell with a Noon kick-off at Leemon Field.

The Bearcats and Bulldogs battled throught the first half with McKendree leading with six shots while earning four corner kicks, firing three of the shots on frame. The Bearcats held control of the contest throughout the first half, putting the game into a 0-0 deadlock at the halftime intermission.

In the second half, Truman State found a goal through a lengthy shot that found the back of the net. McKendree did not stop its offensive push that it found in the first half, breaking through in the latter end of the second 45 minutes, first with the goal by Andrews. A loose ball bounced around the 18-yard box and Andrews made a diving play to fire the equalizer, connecting and tying the game at 1-1 in the 81st minute of play. In the following minutes, the Bearcat attack did not slow down which led to a multitude of chances, totaling seven in the second half, including a foul earn by Andrews just over the 18-yard box. Gleckler lined up to take the free kick, looking to connect with a teammate but instead launching a missile into the upper corner of the goal, marking the soon-to-be game-winner in the 86th.

McKendree held on for its first victory of the season while remaining unbeaten overall in the campaign. Seven Bearcats fired shots in the game with Gleckler (4) and Andrews (3) leading the way while freshman forward Addie Gagen sent two with one on-goal.
