#15 Men’s Volleyball Goes Undefeated at the UC Invitational with Victory Over Mount Olive

CHARLESTON, WV – McKendree's men's volleyball takes down the Trojans of Mount Olive in a 3-0 fashion to conclude the UC Invitational with the set scores of 25-18, 25-17, 25-17.

The Bearcats went on a 4-0 run to open the first set. After Mount Olive tied the score at 11-11, McKendree went on a three-point run to take the lead followed by a four-point run to extend their lead by seven points at 21-14. The multiple runs McKendree went on, while not allowing the Trojans to go on any runs, is what gave the Bearcats the edge in this set.

In the second set, McKendree went on an early three-point run to take the lead at 4-3. Points were traded back and forth with the Bearcats collecting a few back-to-back points until McKendree went on another run of three points to extend their lead to 17-12. Mount Olive would cut the deficit to four-points, but the Bearcats would respond with a four-point run to take the set.

McKendree came into the third set hot, beginning with a 5-0 run. After the Trojans managed to close the gap to three-points, the Bearcats went on a four-point run to pull back ahead at 13-6. Mount Olive produced a three-point run of their own to cut the gap back down to three at 14-11, but McKendree would find themselves on another three-point run of their own to take a commanding lead at 20-13. The Bearcats led the entirety of the third set, taking the match in three straight sets.

Redshirt outside hitter Sam Hoskin was the highlight of the Bearcats offense hitting at a .571% noting 12 kills on 21 attempts with no errors. Hoskin was followed offensively by senior opposite Bryce Wetjen with 10 kills. Junior setter Nate Flayter notched 35 assists with four kills.

On the defense, graduate outside hitter Tyler Tripp led with eight digs. At the net, Flayter tallied four blocks (2 BS, 2 BA) and senior middle blocker Rolen Lively recorded four blocks (1 BS, 3 BA).

Up Next: The Bearcats will make their first home appearance of the 2026 season with matches against Penn State on Jan. 23rd and 24th.
