McKendree Overcomes UMSL in Final Regular Season Dual Meet

O'FALLON, Ill. – McKendree Men's Swim and Dive defeated conference opponent UMSL in the final regular season meet at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex Friday afternoon.  

McKendree started out the day taking the top two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. On top of the podium were the group of Joey Ovanic, Nojus Bertulis, Daniel de Oliveira, and Tyson Upton, swimming 1:28.03. Right behind them were Tyler Bardak, Patrick Cramer, Carson Olson and Phin Theall, swimming 1:32.06. 

Miguel Carvalhosa followed in the 1000-yard freestyle, winning the event with an impressive 9:14.46. He would also earn another individual win in the 500-yard freestyle with a 4:30.69.  

In the 200-yard freestyle Vova Garvysh, Jakub Rynkiewicz, Olson and Noah Brereton swept the top four spots in the event finishing with times of 1:37.31, 1:41.49, 1:41.50, and 1:42.56, respectively.  

Ovanic earned an individual win in the 100-yard backstroke swimming 50.34. Bardak and Theall claimed the top two spots in the 200-yard butterfly finishing with times of 1:46.54 and 1:47.98 respectively.  

In the 50-yard freestyle, de Oliveira, Bertulis, Cramer, and Sam Russel once again swept the top four spots in the event for the Bearcats. finished with times of 20.83, 20.92, 21.60 and 21.89 respectively.  

Bertulis collected an individual win in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing with a 2:00.11. Atticus Sternke was right behind him with a time of 2:07.66 finishing second.  

De Oliveira finished his individual day out on top in the 100-yard butterfly, stopping the clock with a time of 48.22. Theall and Rynkiewicz rounded out the podium with times of 49.59 and 50.51.  

Upton cruised pasted the competition in the 100-yard freestyle swimming 44.04, three seconds ahead of second place.  

For the diving portion, Adin Peper and Finn Moseley finished with scores of 377.93 and 351.00 in the one-meter diving. In the three-meter diving, Peper finished with a 239.40 and Moseley finished with 187.50.  

The Bearcats took the win on the dual meet by a score of 172-91 against the UMSL.  

Next, the team will be heading to the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships held at Deaconess Aquatic Center in Evansville, Indiana. The conference championships will be February 10th through the 14th.
