Record: Bearcats 7-12, 0-0 WWPA | Vikings 4-9, 0-0 MPSF
HOW IT HAPPENED
Robertson drew first blood a minute and 41 seconds into play, as Prokopis and senior utility Rowan Daughtrey (Commerce City, Colo.) answered seconds later after a penalty shot from Augie to take the early 3-1 lead.
A 6-2 run by the Vikings put them out in front for the first time in the match, a minute and a half into the second half. However, a 6-1 response by the Bearcat offense, led by a trio from Prokopis swung things back into McKendree's favor to go up by a comfortable four points.
The fourth quarter would become eventful end to the invitational, as the Vikings roared back into contention with a huge 5-1 spurt in less than four minutes of action to tie the game at 13 apiece.
With the ball in Augie territory, the Bearcats drew a crucial exclusion with 16 seconds remaining to go man-up the rest of the way, as Head Coach Miguel Figueras called the timeout to draw a final play. Coming off the quick regroup, McKendree put their play calling into perfection as they passed the ball throughout the perimeter before Prokopis got a grasp of it and fired it to the back of the net to retake a one-point lead before the buzzer sounded.
Officials deemed one second to put back on the clock, as Augie called one last full timeout in hopes to draw up a miracle. However, they were unable to make a dent, as junior utility Kevin Kehoe (Chicago, Ill.) came up with the big field block and keep the game from going into overtime, allowing McKendree to win the in-state battle 14-13.
