HAMMOND, Ind. -- Sophomore setter Peyton Uptgraft achieved her 1000 assist career milestone during the four set loss against Purdue University Northwest (PNW) this Saturday in their last match of the Midwest Region Volleyball Crossover at the Sportsplex.
WHAT HAPPENED:
The Bearcats played point-for-point in the first set of the match, clinching a five-point scoring run, stringing offensive pressure and capitalizing off PNW's hitting errors. Taking the momentum, McKendree refused to let their side out lead affect the match, only allowing two-to-three points for every rotation. PNW eventually pulled away upon hitting the 20-point mark, applying heavy service pressure and taking the first set.
The second set was an impressive win for the Bearcats, coming back from a 23-18 lead, with middle blocker Avery Guisinger behind the service line, earning two aces and keeping PNW out of system. McKendree put up cleaner offensive numbers in the second, hitting .282 with 14 kills.
The third and fourth sets were similar battles, attempting to steal momentum through serving runs. Both sides were following up each service run and playing catch up. PNW was able to secure the last two sets with a strong push to earn the victory over the Bearcats.
