BOLIVAR, Mo. – McKendree women's soccer (14-2-2, 10-2-2 GLVC) went on the road for the final game of the regular season where they tied Southwest Baptist University (6-7-4, 4-6-3). The Bearcats will now host the first round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) championships with a game on November 1st at 12:00 p.m. against either Drury or Rockhurst with details being confirmed tomorrow from the league.
Both teams were very even in every category with shots, saves corner kicks and fouls being almost exactly the same. However, McKendree would strike first just 30 seconds into the game. After gaining possession in the midfield, graduate student midfielder Macie Begley sent a nice through ball to junior forward Maddie Mauch for her to finish in the bottom left corner to take an early 1-0 lead. Both teams would keep pressure on the opposing defenses getting off multiple shots.
In the second Southwest Baptist would respond by getting a quick goal of their own to tie the game at 1-1. However, Begley would score a freekick goal just outside the 18-yard box to take the lead back. In the 81st minute, Southwest Baptist tied it back up to spilt points.
After the regular season, McKendree ends in second place and will host the first round of the GLVC Championship in Lebanon, Ill. November 1st at 12:00 p.m. Their opponent will be solidified Tuesday as all GLVC games will end.
