SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – No. 22 McKendree women's soccer (16-2-2, 10-2-2 GLVC) defeated third seed Missouri S&T (11-5-2, 9-3-2 GLVC) in the semifinal round of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) championships. Junior forward Maddie Mauch found the back of the net both times to give the Bearcats the edge in the match. This win marks the fourth consecutive appearance in the GLVC Championship game for McKendree.
Mauch's first goal came in the 12th minute after the S&T goalkeeper came off her line where she then found her way around the keeper and slotted home the opening goal of the game. McKendree kept pressing in the offensive half, getting off seven more shots in the half. The defense also kept the Miner offense at bay only allowing one shot in the first half.
The Bearcats ramped up the pressure in the second half, getting off 11 more shots with seven of them changeling the goalkeeper. Mauch's second goal came in the 67th minute where she caught the S&T goalkeeper just out of position and was able to loft her shot just over the head of the keeper to ensure the McKendree win. She was assisted by graduate student Macie Begley.
Senior goalkeeper Peyton Baker got the shutout in net saving three shots from the Miner attack.
McKendree will be competing for the GLVC Championship on Saturday against the fifth seed Maryville at 3:30 p.m. at Copper Soccer Complex.
