Lexington, KY - The McKendree University Men's Golf team got its spring season going over the weekend, playing at Kearney Hill Golf Links for the Saginaw Valley State Invitational. The Bearcats battled through the first two rounds, but were unable to make a climb up the leaderboard during round three and finished in 8th place, with
Pe Nontarux and
Edison Wu finishing right near each other as the top scoring individuals.
ROUND ONE RECAP
McKendree opened the tournament with a well-rounded showing, placing all four scorers within a tight margin and building a solid base for the rest of the event.
Edison Wu led the Bearcats with a 73 (+7), fueled by a 35 on the back nine to finish his round on a strong note.
Pe Nontarux followed closely with a 74 (+6), delivering a composed performance across both nines.
Trystan Du Plessis and
Tristan Traustason turned in rounds of 77 and 78, respectively, each finding improvement late in their rounds.
Ethan Lang, competing as an individual, also posted a 77, while
Aidan O'Keefe completed the team scoring with an 86.
ROUND TWO RECAP
Pe Nontarux delivered the highlight of the tournament for McKendree in the second round, firing a 71 (-1) to move into red figures and lead the Bearcats.
Nontarux's round was built on a 35 on the front nine, and he maintained that rhythm with a 36 coming in, showcasing one of the most complete rounds of the event.
Tristan Traustason followed with a 74 (+2), putting together matching 37s on both sides.
Edison Wu added a 76 (+4), while
Trystan Du Plessis recorded a 79 (+7).
Aidan O'Keefe improved from his opening round with an 80 (+8), and
Ethan Lang posted a second-round 74 (+2).
ROUND THREE RECAP
Edison Wu capped the tournament with a 74 (+2), matching his front and back nines at 37-37 to lead McKendree in the final round.
Pe Nontarux followed with a 77 (+5), while
Trystan Du Plessis added a 79 (+7).
Tristan Traustason carded an 80 (+8), highlighted by a bounce-back 38 on the back nine after a challenging start.
Aidan O'Keefe wrapped up his tournament with an 81 (+8), showing improvement on the inward nine, and
Ethan Lang finished with an 80 (+8) in individual play.
