Richmond, KY - The McKendree University Men's Golf Team went back over to Kentucky for its second spring tournament on Monday and Tuesday, partaking in the Findlay Spring Invite at Boone's Trace National Golf Club. It was a tough field with five teams inside of Scoreboard's Top 50 rankings, but McKendree was within the Top 10 teams after day one. While the Bearcats' stayed within a few strokes of their round one score the rest of the way, some teams surged ahead, including the host Oliers going -27 the last two rounds, to make staying inside the team Top 10 that much more difficult. McKendree would finish +32 and tied for 14th as a team and 6th among GLVC participants.
McKendree opened play with a strong performance at the top of the lineup, led by
Thierry Boucher's even-par round. Boucher carded a 72 (E) with a 35 on the front nine and 37 on the back, highlighted by four birdies on holes 4, 5, 8, and 11 to pace the Bearcats.
Pe Nontarux followed closely with a 73 (+1), recording a 35-38 split and adding birdies on holes 4, 5, and 8.
Edison Wu posted a 74 (+2) with even 37s on both sides, highlighted by birdies on holes 5 and 18, including one on the closing hole.
Trystan Du Plessis turned in a 76 (+4) with birdies on holes 2 and 8, while
Ethan Lang matched that score with a 76 (+4), picking up birdies on holes 14 and 16 on the back nine.
Nontarux paced McKendree in the second round, turning in an even-par 72 (E), highlighted by a strong front nine. Nontarux went 34 (-2) on the front nine before finishing with a 38 on the back, collecting birdies on holes 2, 5, and 8 to fuel his round. Du Plessis followed with a 75 (+3), recording birdies on holes 1, 13, and 14, while Lang also posted a 75 (+3) with birdies on holes 13 and 16 during his back nine. Boucher added a 77 (+5), highlighted by birdies on holes 5 and 8, and Wu rounded out the group with a 78 (+6), picking up birdies on holes 4 and 9 on the front side.
Nontarux delivered again in the final round, turning in a 73 (+1), powered by an outstanding front nine. Nontarux went 33 (-3) on the front nine, highlighted by birdies on holes 4, 5, 6, and 8, before finishing with a 40 on the back to close his round. Boucher followed with a 73 (+1) of his own, recording birdies on holes 8, 10, and 18, including one to finish the round. Eu posted a 77 (+5) with a birdie on hole 6, while Du Plessis added a 79 (+7), picking up birdies on holes 8 and 9 late on the front nine.
