St. Louis, MO - McKendree University Men's Tennis battled against a strong WashU squad but fell 5-2, with several tightly contested singles matches highlighting the day. The Bearcats picked up two singles victories and pushed multiple courts deep into deciding sets, but WashU controlled doubles and key singles positions to secure the win.
WashU set the tone early by sweeping the doubles point. Bendix Schroeder and Ignacio Paolini dropped the No. 1 match, while Aimar Oregui and Arhaan Pahwa fell at No. 3. McKendree's doubles team of Riccardo Ercolani and Felix Diedrichs earned a win at No. 2, but it was not enough to claim the point.
In singles, McKendree found success in the lower half of the lineup. Luka Kalenic delivered a strong three-set victory at No. 5, rallying after dropping the second set to win a tight tiebreak. Oregui added another point at No. 6, grinding out a straight-set win in two competitive sets.
The match featured several close battles at the top of the lineup. Paolini pushed his No. 1 match to three sets, while Schroeder also forced a deciding set at No. 2 but came up just short. WashU secured the remaining courts, including straight-set wins at No. 3 and No. 4, to clinch the 5-2 team result.
