McKendree University Athletics

QUINCY, Ill. -- The McKendree women's volleyball team fell to Quincy University, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in the Pepsi Arena, ending week two of Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) action.  

After dropping the opening set 25-20, the Bearcats answered with a hard-fought second set comeback, drawing up a 28-26 finish. The final points that scored McKendree over the point cap were a reversed point from a challenge win, and a stuff block by outside hitter Brooke Heimburg. Quincy claimed the third set, 25-18, and then held the momentum to finish the match 25-20 in the fourth.  

Libero Bianca Galaviz claimed her career high in digs, totaling 16 for the Bearcats. Setter Peyton Uptgraft earned a season high four categories: in kills (4), assists (36), points (5.5), and blocks (3). She also had seven digs in the four-set match. 

Heimburger lead the Bearcats offensively with 10 kills, while right side hitter Madelyn Clarke followed with nine kills. Pin hitter Sara Niemerg added a showcase of a hitting percentage of .500, with seven kills. 

Quincy was led offensively by Aysem Kocaalp with 15 kills, and Selin Turgut adding 14 kills with four service aces. Team comparisons between the two opponents show that McKendree had a dominant performance in blocking, earning 9 to Quincy's 4.  

McKendree returns home Friday, Oct. 2, where the Bearcats will host Upper Iowa University at 6 p.m. in the Melvin Price Convocation Center. The match will serve as the university's Pink Out and Breast Cancer Awareness Game.
