ELSAH, Ill. – The men's rugby team recently competed against Principia College in a season-opening scrimmage on Saturday, September 5th at the Clark Field in Elsah, Illinois. 

The heat forced a shortening of the scrimmage, but the Bearcats were still able to get two teams on the field and give a lot of players valuable game experience, which led to a really strong hit-out against a very powerful Principia team.  

Ultimately, McKendree was able to implement set-piece moves and give players opportunities in different roles. The freshman squad stepped up and were dangerous both in attack and defense, which showed that they will be massive contributors moving forward. 

With a lot to clean up, a lot of positives presented themselves to build on and work into their next match.

McKendree will return home to Leemon Field on Saturday, September 19th, when they face the University of Illinois for the "Battle of Illinois" trophy at 6:00 PM CT.
