Dr. Michael Messmer, D.O.
Dr. Messmer is a board certified sports medicine physician from BJC Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. He trained at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine with a residency in Family Medicine in Chicago, IL at St. James Hospital. He then went on to complete a fellowship in sports medicine at Metro Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI (an affiliate of Michigan State University). He has been a team physician for multiple athletic programs from NAIA, Division 3, Division 2, Division 1, and Professional. He came from Massachusetts where he was the team physician for the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA, and prior to that in South Bend, IN where he was a faculty member for the sports medicine fellowship program at the University of Notre Dame. He currently enjoys spending time with his children outside of work.

PA Dizes is a board certified physician assistant and member of the American College of Sports Medicine who is readily available to provide the health care needs of all Bearcat student-athletes. He has spent the last 25 years volunteering his time to serve Bearcat athletics, with experience of being the medical director at the Division 1 and 2 levels. He assists in team physicals, injury prevention, attends Bearcat sporting events, and is on campus weekly for injury/illness evaluations and consultations. PA Dizes also teaches courses in the MSAT program here at McKendree.

Dr. Scott Underwood is a Board Certified graduate from Logan University's School of Chiropractic Medicine. 2025 marks Dr. Underwood's 29th year in the Medical Service and his 9th year working with McKendree University. Dr. Underwood started his career in medicine in 1996 as Medic for the United States Air Force, specializing in Critical Care and Critical Care Transport. Currently, Dr. Underwood holds certifications from State of Illinois Emergency Medical Services, American Board of Chiropractic Physicians, American Academy of Sports Medicine, McKenzie Methods, Active Release Techniques, and Kinesio Taping International and has experience at the collegiate and professional level. Dr. Underwood volunteers much of his time to serve the needs of Bearcat student-athletes.
