Chase Green

Chase Green was hired in July 2016 as assistant baseball coach at McKendree University. Green comes to McKendree after spending one season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Green, who was Danny Jackson’s assistant with the Cougars this past spring, will assume the same duties he had at SIUE in tutoring the Bearcats’ hitters and infielders.

Before moving into the coaching ranks, Green enjoyed a stellar playing career at SIUE. He was a four-year starter along the Cougars’ infield, manning the shortstop position for his first two seasons before moving to second base as a junior and senior. Green started 215 games in his SIUE career, which is third on the program’s all-time list. He is the Cougars’ career leader in double plays turned with 120 while he ranks second with 562 career infield assists. At the plate, Green posted 219 hits, which is good for 12th on the SIUE career charts.

The Effingham, Ill., native started all 50 games for the Cougars as a senior in 2015. Green posted a .286 batting average while finishing second on the squad with 59 hits and 34 runs scored. After closing his junior season with a 17-game hit streak, Green hit safely in the Cougars’ first seven games of 2015. The combined 24-game tear tied the school mark for longest hit streak.

Green had perhaps his best season as a junior in 2014, posting career-highs with a .292 average and 66 hits. That season, he tied for the team lead with 18 doubles, a mark that placed Green fourth among all players in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). He also received OVC Player of the Week accolades once during his junior campaign.

At Effingham High School, Green was a three-time All-Area and All-Conference selection. He was a three-time varsity letterman for the Flaming Hearts while also making the honor roll all four years. In addition to his baseball accomplishments, Green was a three-year letterman in basketball.
