Quenton Maag

Quenton Maag came to McKendree University in the summer of 2016. Maag joined the Bearcats’ football coach staff and will assist Joe Bettasso in tutoring the linebackers. He has added responsibility for the 2017 season as the Bearcats' coordinator of football operations.

In 2016, Maag helped coach the middle layer of the Bearcats' defense to its usual stellar production. Middle linebacker A.J. Wentland established a new single-season record for the third consecutive year, ending the season with 145 tackles on his way to Great Lakes Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors. The Bearcats' starters at outside linebacker -- Kyle Kirkpatrick and Austin Weltha -- closed the season with 65 and 60 tackles, respectively, which were also among the team's top five for the year.

Maag, a native of East Helena, Mont., moved east after serving as a defensive intern at Washington State University for the 2015 season. He worked with the Cougars’ defensive line on a variety of skill development techniques and prepared individual breakdowns for each player’s actions during the season. Maag was involved in helping Washington State to a 9-4 overall record in a season that was capped with a victory in the Sun Bowl.

Along with his coaching experience, Maag also assisted in running a host of clinics at WSU as well as the program’s pro day activities. He was in recruiting activities for the Cougars.

During his time at Washington State, Maag was involved in the Sport Management Club, Academic Resource Center and Residence Life. He was elected president and fundraising director for the WSU Sport Management Club in April 2014, planning and executing the organization’s 5K run. Maag spent a semester working in the school’s Academic Resource Center, and was also a resident advisor for WSU during the 2013-14 academic year.

Maag graduated from Washington State with a bachelor’s degree in sport management with minors in business administration and communication in May 2016.
