Sam Sewell

Sam Sewell enters his first season as a member of the McKendree University football coaching staff. Sewell will coach the Bearcats’ running backs and also serve as special teams coordinator.

Sewell comes to McKendree after spending the last two seasons as the tight ends coach and assistant special teams coach at Colorado State University-Pueblo. Serving on the same staff as current Bearcat head coach Mike Babcock, Sewell helped the ThunderWolves to a 23-2 record in two seasons which included a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championships. CSU-Pueblo posted back-to-back undefeated regular seasons and earned the No. 1 ranking in the NCAA Division II polls heading into the post-season. Sewell helped coach a pair of standouts at the tight end position during his stay at CSU-Pueblo, including All-American Koby Wittek in 2011 and All-Region honoree Roger Pfannenschmid in 2012.

Before arriving at CSU-Pueblo, Sewell was a four-year member of the football program at the University of Northern Colorado. He was a wide receiver before making the switch to tight end in the Bears’ high-octane offense. Sewell was a two-year starter at tight end for Northern Colorado. While Sewell was at Northern Colorado, he played on a squad that produced the top rushing and scoring offense in program history since the Bears’ jump to NCAA Division I.

Sewell, the son of former NFL standout Steve Sewell, earned his bachelor’s degree in recreation, tourism and hospitality from Northern Colorado in 2010.
