Sherand Boyd, Jr., is entering his first season as an assistant football coach with McKendree University. He will work primarily with the Bearcat corner backs.
Boyd, Jr., comes to McKendree after spending the past two years as an assistant football coach at Belleville West High School. In his time at Belleville West, he spent the 2019-20 school year as the freshman head coach and then served as the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach for the varsity team in 2020-21.
Prior to becoming a high school Resource Behavior Teacher and high school football coach, Boyd, Jr., was a three-year lettermen as a safety at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colo.
In his three years (2016-18) playing with the Bears, Boyd. Jr., played in 31 games and made 20 starts, including playing in and starting 10 of 11 games during the 2018 season. In 2018, he was a team captain and earned Honorable Mention All-Big Sky Conference honors. He tied the school’s Division I record for interceptions in a season with four and was fourth on the team in tackles with 58.
As a sophomore in 2017, started all 10 games at safety and was second on the team with 84 tackles, including recoding 7.5 tackles for a loss. Tallied his first career interception against Montana State and was a member of the Academic All-Big Sky Team.
During his redshirt freshman campaign in 2016, he played in all 11 games and recorded 39 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss and was named to the Academic All-Big Sky Team.
As a high school student-athlete at Belleville West from 2011-14, he was a three-time All-Conference performer and led the Maroons to the second round of the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) football playoffs in 2014. He played on both sides of the ball at Belleville West as he was both a quarterback and outside linebacker and was a three-time team captain. In the classroom, was a member of the National Honor Society, the Academic Honor Roll and a member of the Omega Psi Psi Fraternity and was the Lambda Beta Chapter President and Dean of Recruitment in 2018-19.
Boyd, Jr., earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education from the University of Northern Colorado in 2019.
