Fernando Stevenson joined the McKendree University men's basketball staff in the fall of 2012. Stevenson will continue to serve as an assistant coach for the varsity program, while he will also once again guide the Bearcats' junior varsity squad.
Stevenson starred at East St. Louis Senior High School, where he earned honorable mention All-State accolades as a senior. A guard, Stevenson averaged 22 points per game during his senior season for the Flyers.
After his high school playing days, Stevenson brought his talents to McKendree, where he was a three-year varsity performer. He was named the Bearcats’ Defensive Player of the Year following his senior year, and is also a past recipient of the team’s Nate Clay Award. Stevenson also helped McKendree to a pair of NAIA Tournament appearances during his career. Stevenson averaged nearly 10 points per game during his Bearcat career.
Following his playing days, Stevenson returned to his high school alma mater at East St. Louis, where he spent nine years as an assistant coach, handling both the freshman and junior varsity programs during that time.
Stevenson and his wife, Johna, have three children – Courtney, Ryan and Mason.
