Scott Gyllenborg joined the Bearcats staff as head men’s soccer coach in December of 2016 after spending the previous three seasons at SIU-Edwardsville. Gyllenborg also logged seasons on staff at Colgate University and his alma mater, the University of Indianapolis.

2025: Entered GLVC tournament as the 3rd seed after 8-2-4 conference record... five were selected to the All-GLVC Team (Reinger, Muehlhans, Poll, Romero, and Lewis)... made it to the GLVC championship after beating 6th seed Drury and 2nd seed Drury to fall to 5th seed Maryville in the championship...Made third straight NCAA Tournament appearence as an 8th seed... Muehlhans and Reinger collected All-Region First Team selections... Finished the year 10-6-5. 
2024: Finished GLVC play unscathed going 8-0-6...ranked 14th nationally and earned a 3rd seed heading into GLVC tournament... six Bearcats earned All-GLVC selections (Schmidt, Muehlhans, Herluf, Reiniger, Hirschmann, Schubert)... Herluf would also win GLVC Goalkepper of the Year and Schubert would win GLVC Defensive Player of the Year... four would earn a D2CCA All-Midwest Region selection (Herluf, Schubert, Muehlhans, Schmidt) Herluf and Schubert would earn All-American selections... Went into the NCAA Tournament as the 2nd seed which is the highest seed since the DII era... Beat 12th seed Fort Hayes State, 6th seed Findlay, 1st seed Saginaw Valley to win first ever DII regional title and trip to final four... Would fall to Lynn to end historic season... Ended season ranked 4th nationally and a record of 15-1-7.
2023: Went into GLVC tournament as 4th seed at 8-1-4... five All-GLVC selections (Schmidt, Schubert, Herluf, Huels, and Davies), one USC All-Midwest Region selection (Schmidt)... Entered NCAA Tournament as 4th seed... knocked off 5th seed Southern Nazarene in OT to secure first ever NCAA Tournament win. Fell to Maryville in Round of 16 to PKs...two players eared GLVC weekly honors (9/4 Davies) (9/11, 10/9, 10/16, 10/23, 10/30 Herluf)... Finished 12-2-7 and ranked 24th in the nation... Ranked 3rd nationally in shutouts (14), goals allowed average (.373), save percentage (.867) and tied 3rd in goal minutes (1930).  
2022: Went .500 overall…two All-GLVC selections (Stuebbe, Schmidt)…defeated then-No.15 LEC after beating ODU, both on the road, to begin the season…one player earned GLVC weekly honors (8/29 - Swenson)...finished 9th in the GLVC
2021: Finished 6th in the GLVC at 8-5-1 while going 8-5-4 overall…one USC All-Midwest honoree (Stone) and three All-GLVC selections (Stone, Davis, Gerstenberger)…Stone signed professional contract following season
2020-21: Played in spring of 2021 due to COVID with only GLVC contests…finished 6-5-2 overall…made GLVC Tournament as No.7 seed…two All-GLVC selections (Arteaga, Davis)…ended regular season with back-to-back wins, beating Lindenwood and UMSL
2019: Won GLVC regular season title at 12-1-2 while going 15-4-2 overall…made first-ever NCAA tournament appearance…earned GLVC Coach of the Year honor…nabbed GLVC freshman of the year (Huels)…Four individuals named USC All-Midwest with two first team (Stone, Cortazar)…totaled 8 All-GLVC selections and three first team (Stone, Cortazar, Davis)…fell to Bellarmine in GLVC Tournament title bout…was undefeated in GLVC until final regular season game…fell in NCAA first round to Ohio Valley
2018: Concluded 11-6-1 and 8-4-1 in the GLVC…made first GLVC tournament appearance with 6th-place league finish…two All-GLVC selections, the first in DII era…was undefeated through the first five GLVC contests…
2017: Opened season with 3-1 win over No.11 Fort Hays State…went 2-14 overall with one home and away win…
 
Before McKendree
Before arriving at McKendree, Gyllenborg served as the assistant on the SIUE staff, helping the Cougars to the Missouri Valley (MVC) tournament title and an NCAA tournament in 2016. In the 2016 national tournament, SIUE made it to the Sweet Sixteen after defeating Michigan State and Butler. During his tenure on staff, the Cougars recorded 25 All-MVC selections, including the 2016 Player of the Year and the 2015 Staff of the Year. While at SIUE, the Cougars recorded a pair of NCAA tournament appearances while also having three players selected in the MLS Draft.

Gyllenborg spent a pair of season on the Colgate staff in the Patriot League where the program made two conference tournament runs, had multiple All-Patriot selections, and an MLS draft selection. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, Indianapolis, following his two seasons with the Greyhounds as a starter and captain.

Gyllenborg and his wife, Melissa, reside in Chesterfield, Missouri, with their three children; Olivia, Rhea, and Renna. Melissa currently resides as the head coach of Maryville University women’s lacrosse.
