Sauerwein has spent the last eight years in the collegiate softball coaching rankings, spanning the country with stints both locally at Missouri Baptist and in Florida at Ave Maria and then most recently with the Buccaneers. His first position after graduating from McKendree in 2015 was as the assistant varsity and head JV coach across St. Louis at Missouri Baptist. He spent three seasons with the Spartans (2016-18) before heading south to Ave Maria (NAIA) for three years. Sauerwein remained in Florida following his time with the Gyrenes, joining FSW in August of 2021. Throughout his tenure in NAIA and JUCO softball, he was part of multiple conference, region, and national titles with double-digit All-Conference and All-Region players as well as seven All-American and seven All-State athletes. Sauerwein also was part of the 2023 NJCAA DI Coaching Staff of the Year and South Region Coaching Staff of the Year.Â
Sauerwein earned his bachelor's degree at McKendree in Leadership in Sport and Exercise Science before achieving his masters in Sport Management at Missouri Baptist.Â
