BEFORE McK: Makensie Carter attended Lindenwood University - Belleville before Transferring to McKendree University after her sophomore year. Carter left the Lynx with a 3.65 earned-run average, finished with a 12-12 record and pitched for 107 innings. In those innings, she recorded 125 strike outs and kept her opponents to a .219 average. She led the American-Midwest Conference in strike outs per-game (8.15), was a Second Team All-Conference (AMC) honoree, a 2x Academic AMC recipient and was a Dean's List honoree.

Prior to Belleville, Carter finished her high school season with a .439 average, 16 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, seven strikeouts all in 82 at-bats. She pitched 141 2/3 innings, struck out 141 opponents, allowed 44 runs and had a 10-11 record. Carter made Second Team All-Conference her junior year and First Team All-Conference her senior year. As a senior for the Wildcats, she was an All-South and All-State honoree. Carter kept busy when she was not in-season, playing for the Southern Express '99 and Southern Storm softball clubs.
