(KANSAS CITY, Mo., Oct. 2)—The McKendree University volleyball team extended its win streak to nine straight matches with a sweep Saturday morning at Avila University in Kansas City. The Bearcats rolled to victory by scores of 25-14, 25-19 and 25-16.
The Bearcats improve to 15-5 on the season. McKendree will return to American Midwest Conference play Wednesday with a home contest against Hannibal-LaGrange College. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the Melvin Price Convocation Center.
Senior middle hitter Ashley Perry (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) (Sparta, Ill./Sparta) led the offensive surge for McKendree with 11 kills against Avila. Junior right-side hitter Kaitlyn Kollmann (Collinsville, IL/Metro East Lutheran) (Collinsville, Ill./Metro-East Lutheran) chipped in with 10 kills. Senior setter Alyssa Speckhals (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) posted 19 assists in the victory and junior setter Melissa Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad) (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) added 12 sets.
Senior defensive specialist Lindsey Gray (Lebanon, Ill./Lebanon) (Lebanon, Ill./Lebanon) registered a team-best 12 digs to go along with two service aces against Avila.
