(GREAT FALLS, Mont., Dec. 3)- The No. 2 McKendree University wrestling team defeated Simon Fraser University (B.C.), 38-9, in their first of three matches on Friday night at the Battle of the Rockies Duals hosted by University of Great Falls.

McKendree improved to 7-1 overall after the win and will face No. 10 Montana State University-Northern at 3:30 p.m. (MST).

The Bearcats only two losses in the dual came at 125 pounds by forfeit and at heavyweight by a 6-3 decision. Trailing by six after the opening match, McKendree senior Wade Lowe (Godfrey, Ill., Alton) and junior Kyle Williams (Scott Air Force Base, Ill., Mascoutah) posted back-to-back wins by pinfall at 133 and 141 pounds, respectively, to bounce back and take a 12-6 lead. A major decision win by senior Ryan Jahn (Bolingbrook, Ill., Bolingbrook) at 149 pounds was followed by a decision win at 157 pounds by freshman Josh Ballard (Troy, Ill./Triad) to extend the lead out to 19-6. Sophomore Isaiah Gonzalez (Montgomery, Ill., Montini Catholic) earned a 10-1 major decision win at 165 pounds and redshirt sophomore Kyle Hanner (Wood River, Ill., East Alton-Wood River) pinned his opponent in 2:17 to give the Bearcats a 23-point lead. Senior Tanner Wolk (Ste. Genevieve, Mo., Ste. Genevieve) earned a decision win at 184 pounds and senior Andrew Sanchez (Shiloh, Ill., O'Fallon) won by forfeit at 197 pounds to put McKendree up 38-6, before losing its heavyweight match to make the final score 38-9.
