(KANSAS CITY, Mo., Sept. 25)- The McKendree University men's soccer team used two first half goals to defeat Avila University 2-1 on Saturday.

The Bearcats, 5-2-2 overall, will travel to St. Louis, Mo., on Friday, October 1st to face Missouri Baptist University in an American Midwest Conference game at 8 p.m.

McKendree took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd minute of the contest when junior midfielder Richard Henderson (Dundee, Scotland, Lawside Academy) scored on a pass from freshman forward Dan Bogard (Portsmouth, England, Porchester Community). The Bearcats took a 2-0 lead in 28th minute on a goal by senior forward Max Stainmez (Holland, Ontario, Canada, Denison) off an assist from junior midfielder Tom Ward (Frodhsam, England). The Eagles scored in the 62nd minute, but the Bearcats held off the hosts for the remainder of the game to earn the win.

Junior goalkeeper Joe Sagar (Oldham, England, Hulme) improved to 4-0-1 on the season with the win.
