(CEDAR FALLS, Iowa, Jan. 8)- The No. 2 McKendree University wrestling team suffered its first dual loss to an NAIA opponent on Saturday to Lindenwood University, 16-15, in the championship quarterfinals at the NWCA/Cliff Keen National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

The Bearcats, 10-2 overall, will face No. 8 Dickinson State University in the second round of the consolation bracket at 5 p.m. on Saturday evening.

McKendree started off down 6-0 after two decision losses at 125 and 133 pounds, but bounced back and tied it, 6-6, after decision wins by junior Kyle Williams (Scott Air Force Base, Ill., Mascoutah) and senior Ryan Jahn (Bolingbrook, Ill., Bolingbrook) at 141 and 149 pounds, respectively. The Bearcats lost a major decision at 157 pounds and lost a close match at 165 pounds, 3-2, to fall back 13-6. A decision win by sophomore John Vogt (Festus, Mo., Ste. Genevieve) at 174 pounds brought McKendree within four, 13-9, but a decision loss at 184 pounds put the Lions up 16-9 with two matches remaining,. The Bearcats won both remaining matches, but the two decision wins weren't enough and McKendree dropped its second dual of the season.
