McKENDREE VOLLEYBALL TEAM HOSTS “DIG PINK” NIGHT; BEARCATS SWEPT BY LINDENWOOD

(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 12)—
The McKendree University volleyball team took on both the Lindenwood University Lions and the fight against breast cancer Wednesday evening at the Melvin Price Convocation Center.
 
The Bearcats hosted their annual “Dig Pink” Night, as the team asked fans for donations and sold limited edition “Dig Pink” t-shirts, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. On the court, McKendree was swept by the visiting Lions. Lindenwood took the best-of-five match by scores of 25-22, 25-14 and 25-22.
 
McKendree is now 6-19 on the year and will return to the court Friday night with a match at Greenville College. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
 
Freshman outside hitter Erica Johnson (New Baden, IL/Wesclin) (New Baden, Ill./Wesclin) led the offensive attack for the Bearcats with 11 kills, while senior outside hitter Nadia Moore (Cahokia, Ill./Cahokia) (Cahokia, Ill./Cahokia) chipped in with eight attacks. Senior libero Savannah Jarvis (Mascoutah, IL/Mascoutah) (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) contributed a match-high 11 digs for McKendree. Freshman setter Maggie Mueller (St. Peters, MO/Francis Howell Central) (St. Peters, Mo./Francis Howell Central) dished out 14 assists as senior setter Melissa Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad) (Collinsville, Ill./Triad) helped out with 12 assists.
 
In the first set, McKendree led in the opening moments before Lindenwood (14-9) edged out in front. The Lions used a 9-3 run to take its largest lead of the set at 20-13 before holding off a late challenge from the Bearcats.
 
Lindenwood never trailed in the second set, although McKendree rallied with 14-11 on a kill by Moore. The Lions closed the set by scoring the final six points to pull away. In the third set, McKendree stayed close, and eventually grabbed a 21-20 lead on a kill by senior outside hitter Kaitlyn Kollmann (Collinsville, IL/Metro East Lutheran) (Collinsville, Ill./Metro East Lutheran). However, Lindenwood bounced back by ending the set and the match with a 5-1 run.
 
Erin Anselman led a balanced attack for the Lions with 11 kills, while Kristy Dreisewerd added 10 kills.
