(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 1)—Playing in its final home match of the 2011 season on Tuesday night at the Melvin Price Convocation Center, the McKendree University volleyball squad was defeated in four sets by Quincy University. The visiting Hawks dropped the first set before rallying to sweep the final three sets and take the match. Quincy took the contest by scores of 23-25, 25-20, 25-11 and 25-13.
McKendree slips to 10-22 overall with the loss. The Bearcats will have nine days off before wrapping up the season Nov. 10-12 at the Locos Grill Transition Tournament in St. Charles, Mo. McKendree will be the No. 5 seed in the six-team event, and will face host Lindenwood University in the opening game of the tournament on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 10 a.m.
Prior to Tuesday's match with Quincy, the Bearcat program honored eight seniors along with head coach
Evelyn Bean, who is stepping down from her volleyball duties at the conclusion of the season. Bean will remain as the head coach of the McKendree softball program.
The eight seniors honored in the pre-match ceremony were twins Melinda and

Savannah Jarvis (Mascoutah, IL/Mascoutah) (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah),
Kaitlyn Kollmann (Collinsville, IL/Metro East Lutheran) (Collinsville, Ill./Metro East Lutheran),
Nadia Moore (Cahokia, Ill./Cahokia) (Cahokia, Ill./Cahokia), Maggie Musso (Collinsville, Ill/Collinsville), Kelsie Perkins (Jacksonville, Ill./Routt Catholic) and
Lauren Richter (Mascoutah, IL/Mascoutah) (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah).
Against Quincy, Moore led the Bearcats' offensive attack with nine kills, while Kollmann chipped in with seven attacks.
Melissa Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad) handed out a team-high 15 assists as Jarvis registered a team-high 11 digs. Freshman outside hitter
Erica Johnson (New Baden, IL/Wesclin) (New Baden, Ill./Wesclin) added 10 digs as freshman middle hitter
Hilary Richter (Troy, IL/Triad) (Troy, Ill./Triad) had a match-high five assisted blocks for McKendree.
McKendree broke from the gates quickly against Quincy, building an 11-7 lead after consecutive kills by
Melinda Bayer (Collinsville, IL/Triad). The Bearcats eventually stretched the advantage to as many as five points, the last coming at 21-16 after an attack error by Quincy, before the Hawks staged a late rally. A 7-2 run enabled Quincy to tie the match at 23-23 before a kill by Kollmann and an attack error by the Hawks sealed the first-set victory for McKendree.
Quincy (14-12) pulled away in the later stages of the second set to even the contest. An 11-1 run midway through the third set sparked the Hawks to a convincing 25-11 win in the third set. Quincy then slowly pulled away in the fourth and final set to notch the match victory.
Briann Joslin led all players with 17 kills to pace Quincy. Carly Schmitt added 15 kills while Taylor Jacobs registered 12 attacks. Lyndsay Kooi handed out a match-high 36 assists for the Hawks.
