(ATHERTON, Calif., Nov. 19)- The McKendree University wrestling team dropped two duals on Friday evening while competing at the Menlo College Duals in Atherton, Calif.
McKendree dropped to 1-2 in dual matches this season and will have individuals competing at the Menlo College Invitational and at the Lindenwood University Open on Saturday, November 19th.
The Bearcats opened up dual competition agianst San Francisco State University and dropped a 32-10 decision. McKendree earned wins by sophomore
Josh Ballard (Troy, Ill./Triad) at 157 pounds, redshirt freshman
Luis Alba (Kissimmee, Fla./Cypress Creek) at 174 pounds, and junior
Tyler Orr (Mattoon, Ill./Mattoon) at 125 pounds.
Ballard defeated Vicente Aboytes by major decision, 11-1, to pick up the Bearcats' first win of the afternoon. Alba defeated Arman Ostadsharif by decision, 4-1, and Orr earned a narrow 7-5 decision win over Andy Yu.
In their second dual of the day, the Bearcats were defeated by host Menlo College, 27-15.
After opening up the dual with a forfeit loss at 141 pounds, redshirt sophomore
Devin Patterson (Mattoon, Ill./Mattoon) cut the deficit in half with a 8-2 decision win over Alex Varela at 149 pounds. The Oaks posted three straight wins, including a win by fall at 174 pounds, to extend their lead to 18-3, before redshirt junior
Kyle Reid (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) defeated Carlos Soto by technical fall, 21-4, to make the score 18-8. Menlo posted two more wins at 197 pounds and at heavyweight, before Orr defeated Zach Johnson by major decision, 12-1, at 125 pounds, and freshman Dylan Viglasky defeated Gustavo Lopez by decision, 8-5, to round out the final score to 27-15.
