(CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky., Feb. 27)—The McKendree University baseball team closed out a three-game weekend series at Campbellsville University with a 2-0 loss to the host Tigers Sunday in Kentucky.
Campbellsville scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and added an insurance run in the eighth inning to hold on for the win. The Bearcats slip to 3-10 on the season and will open the home portion of its schedule next weekend at Hypes Field. McKendree will host Saint Ambrose University in consecutive doubleheaders Saturday and Sunday at Hypes Field. Both twinbills are scheduled to start at noon.
After the Bearcats were retired in order in the top of the first inning, Campbellsville grabbed a 1-0 lead thanks to an RBI single by Michael McBride, who was also the starting pitcher in the contest for the Tigers. That score stood until the eighth inning, when Campbellsville pushed across another run on a double play with the bases loaded.
McBride allowed just two hits to McKendree over the first five innings. Jacob Cook, who earned the save for the Tigers, gave up the other two hits collected by the Bearcats.
Senior outfielder Dan Corwin (St. Louis, MO/DeSmet) (St. Louis, Mo./DeSmet) had two of the four hits for McKendree. Senior catcher Kyle Moll (Mascoutah, IL/Mascoutah) (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) added a double, while freshman outfielder Tony Kossina (Millstadt, IL/Belleville West) (Millstadt, Ill./Belleville West) had an eighth-inning single.
