TUPIRI'S FOUR GOALS PROPELS BEARCATS OVER BULLDOGS 8-0, WARD AND JAMES MOVE UP ON CAREER ASSISTS LIST

Tupiri had four goals in the 8-0 win
Box Score (SPRINGFIELD, Ill., September 26)- The McKendree University men's soccer team scored five first-half goals to roll to an 8-0 victory at Benedictine University-Springfield on Monday afternoon.

The Bearcats improved to 10-0 overall and will travel to St. Charles, Mo., on Saturday, October 1 to face Lindenwood University at 1 p.m.

Sophomore midfielder/forward Blessing Tupiri (Harare, Zimbabwe, Falcon College) scored four goals in the contest, including three in the second half, while senior midfielder Richard Henderson (Dundee, Scotland, Lawside Academy), freshman forward Anthony Grant (Kingston, Jamaica, Jamaica College), sophomore forward R.B. Beekley (St. Peters, Mo., St. Charles West), and senior defender Pat Jones (Mehlville, MO, Mehlville) also all contributed goals in the contest.

Senior midfielder Tom Ward (Frodhsam, England) tallied two assists to move him into sole possession of fourth place all-time at McKendree with 24 career assists. Former BearcatMatt Craig is atop the career best list with 33 set from 1994-97, while Francisco Mosca (1999-2002) and Steve DeMoulin (2002-05) sit in second and third all-time with 28 and 26, respectively. Senior defender Sam James (Southampton. England, Tauntons) also tallied an assist in the contest, which placed him in a tie for fifth all-time with Gareth Batchelor (2004-07) with 22 career assists. Freshman C.J. Cerna (Collinsville, Ill., Collinsville), junior Nick Watt (Glasgow, Scotland, Shawlands), senior Kameron Young (Mascoutah, Ill., Mascoutah), and junior Mark Kyszka (Lake in the Hills, Ill., H.D. Jacobs) also each had one assist in the win.

Senior goalkeeper Joe Sagar (Oldham, England, Hulme) only played 28 minutes in goal, but earned the win to improve to 10-0 overall. Redshirt junior Tim Day (Edwardsville, IL, Edwardsville) played the remaining 62 minutes in goal and had one save. The duo combined to earn the team shutout.
