Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 24)- The McKendree University men's soccer team surrendered three second-half goals on Wednesday night to end its season with a 3-0 loss to Bellarmine University.
The Bearcats close out their 2012 season with a record of 9-8 overall and 7-8 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, narrowly missing out on a berth into the conference tournament in its first season of membership.
The first half was evenly matched, with Bellarmine holding a slight 8-6 edge in shots taken, but the visitors turned up the pressure in the second half. The Knights scored goals in the 47th, 63rd, and 81st minutes to jump out to the 3-0 win.
Freshman goalkeeper
Scott Armistead (Auckland, New Zealand/Saint Peter's College) started the match and had three saves in 36:20 in goal, while fellow freshman goalkeeper
Matt Derrington (St. Louis, Mo./Trinity Catholic) finished the final 53:40 of the match and surrendered all three goals. Derrington fell to 4-3 overall after the loss.
