Bearcats Score Twice Early, Hold On to Defeat Missouri S&T 2-0

Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 5)- The McKendree University women's soccer team scored two goals in the first 18 minutes of their match on Friday night to shutout visiting Missouri S&T 2-0.

The Bearcats improved to 6-3-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference after the victory, and will host Drury University on Sunday, Oct. 7 at Noon.

Senior forward Carlee Luehmann (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) scored unassisted, her third goal of the season, in the ninth minute to put McKendree in front 1-0 early in the contest. Freshman midfielder Cassi Kaping scored her third goal of the season with a header off of a free kick by junior midfielder Tara Kennedy (Waterloo, Ill./Gibault Catholic) in the 18th minute that extended the Bearcats lead to 2-0. McKendree flexed its offensive muscle in the first half by outshooting the Lady Miners 12-2.

The majority of the contest was played in a steady rain, but the game had to be paused in the 78th minute for a lightning delay. After a 40 minute delay, officials deemed that conditions were safe to continue and the game was completed in full.

Junior goalkeeper Maggie Dudas (St. Peters, Mo./Ft. Zumwalt South) improved to 6-3-1 overall, while grabbing four saves and recording her fourth shutout of the season.
