(WARRENSBURG, Mo., Nov. 11)- The McKendree University wrestling team had six individuals finish in the top four on Sunday at the University of Central Missouri Open.

The Bearcats will travel to St. Charles, Mo., on Saturday, Nov. 17 to compete at the Lindenwood University "Joe Parisi" Open. Matches will begind at 10 a.m.

Junior Isaiah Gonzalez (Montgomery, Ill./Montini Catholic) was McKendree's top finisher with a runner-up finish at 165 pounds. Gonzalez dropped a 6-1 decision to Jake Residori of SIU Edwardsville in the championship match.

Junior Brenden Murphy (Palos Park, Ill./Marian Catholic) and sophomore Ross Janney (Daleville, Ind./Yorktown) both brought home third place finishes from the tournament. Murphy defeated Oklahoma State University's Brian Crutchmer in an 8-6 decision in the third place match at 133 pounds, while Janney defeated Dan Mueller of Missouri Valley College by decision, 6-3, at heavyweight to finish in third place.

Junior Mark Marianovich (Chicago, Ill./Marian Catholic) and sophomores Nick Haferkamp (Lincoln, Ill./Lincoln Community) and Julian Smith (Florissant, Mo./Hazelwood Central) all finshed in fourth place in their respective weight classes. Marianovich lost a 6-2 decision to Jacob Ekster of Missori Valley at 149 pounds, while Haferkamp lost a 5-3 decision to Ty Loethen of University of Central Missouri in the third place match. Smith was defeated in a 6-0 decision by Austin Schafer of Oklahoma State at 197 pounds to finish in fourth place.

Four members of the Bearcats wrestling team that competed unattached also placed at the event. Senior Kyle Reid (Belleville, Ill./Belleville East) finished as runner-up at 197 pounds, senior DaMonte Riley (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic) placed third at 141 pounds, junior Jose Torres (Cicero, Ill./Morton East) placed fifth at 125 pounds, and freshman Steven Bradtmueller (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) finished in sixth at 141 pounds.
