Willis' Career Night Carries Bearcats Past Lindenwood 86-71

Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 28)- Junior guard Brittany Willis (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway South) poured in a career-high 32 points on Wednesday night to help lead the McKendree University women's basketball team to a 86-71 win over Lindenwood University (Mo.).

The Bearcats have won three-straight games and improved to 4-2 overall on the season. McKendree will host Lincoln University (Mo.) on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m.

Willis' 32 points led all players, while sophomore guard Caty Ponce (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) scored 19 points and had a career-high seven assists and five steals. Freshman guard Liz Gilman (St. Louis, Mo./Principia) and senior forward Shelby Woelfel (Jerseyville, Ill./Jerseyville) each had 10 points, while sophomore guard Haeley Kreisel (Warsaw, Mo./Warsaw) had a career-high 12 rebounds.

The Bearcats have now had four players score in double-figures in its last three games.

McKendree jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead on consecutive three-pointer's by Willis and Ponce, but the Lady Lions bounced back to cut the deficit to 6-5 two minutes into the contest.

The Bearcats extended their lead to 19-12 on a jumper by Ponce with 14:58 left in the half, but Lindenwood went on a 14-3 run over the next two minutes to take its only lead of the game, 26-22.

Willis scored six points over the next four minutes to help McKendree retake the lead, 33-26, following an 11-0 run.

Lindenwood kept up the pace in the remainder of the half, but a deep three-pointer by Ponce beat the the halftime buzzer and the Bearcats went into the half with a 47-39 lead.

McKendree forced five turnovers in the opening four minutes of the second half and built a 56-43 lead with 16 minutes left in the game.

A Willis layup gave the Bearcats its largest lead, 72-49, with 10:11 left in the game, and McKendree only surrendered its double-digit lead for 62-seconds of the remainder of the contest.

Julie Hlinak led Lindenwood with 15 points, while Tori Kuhn and Sarah Schnieders each had 13 points in the loss. Kuhn also had 10 rebounds.
