BOX SCORE

(SEARCY, Ark., March 14)—
The McKendree University baseball team wrapped up a three-game road trip to Arkansas with an 8-2 loss Wednesday at Harding University.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the seventh inning, the Bearcats erupted for two runs in the top of the frame to tie the score at 2-2. But the host Bison scored three times each in the seventh and eighth innings to pull ahead to stay. McKendree slips to 4-15 on the season and will be in St. Charles, Mo., on Saturday for a doubleheader at Lindenwoo University. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.

Senior infielder Ronnie Calvird (Farmington, MO/Park Hills Central) (Farmington, Mo./Park Hills Central) had three of McKendree's four hits on the day. Calvird posted singles in the first, fourth and seventh innings, and also scored the tying run in the top of the seventh. Freshman infielder Kyle Rutledge (Bloomington, IL/Normal) had the Bearcats' other hit of the day, an infield single in the ninth inning.

Harding (17-6) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. McKendree started its two-run rally in the top of the seventh inning when senior outfielder Brandyn Snider (Fielden, IL/Jersey Community) (Fielden, Ill./Jersey Community) struck out but reached first base on a wild pitch. Calvird followed with his third hit of the game to put runners at first and second with nobody out.

Freshman infielder Pierce Borah (Mt. Vernon, IL/Mt. Vernon) (Mt. Vernon, Ill./Mt. Vernon) came up as a pinch-hitter and dropped down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third. Snider then scored on a wild pitch to cut the Bearcats' deficit to 2-1. Calvird came home with the tying run when freshman outfielder Bryce Harre (Nashville, IL/Nashville) (Nashville, Ill./Nashville) drilled a ground ball of the leg of Harding pitcher Ryan Modglin. The ball caromed to the third baseman, who recorded the out to give Harre an RBI groundout.

But the Bison responded with a two-out, three-run rally in the bottom of the seventh to regain a 5-2 lead. Harding then put the game out of reach with three unearned runs in the eighth inning.

Sophomore right-hander Ben Dallesasse (DeKalb, IL/DeKalb) (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) went 6 2/3 innings for McKendree in taking the loss. Dallesasse scattered seven hits and allowed four earned runs. He walked two and struck out four in a 110-pitch outing for the Bearcats.
