BEARCATS EDGED IN SUSPENDED GAME, DOUBLEHEADER AT LINDENWOOD

Jon Trampe gave up just three hits over six innings in the final game at Lindenwood

BOX SCORES -- SUSPENDED GAME FROM SATURDAY | GAME 1 | GAME 2

(ST. CHARLES, Mo., March 18)—
The McKendree University baseball squad was technically defeated three times on Sunday at Lindenwood University. The Bearcats were defeated 2-1 in the completion of a suspended game from Saturday afternoon, then dropped decisions of 5-0 and 3-2 in the regularly-scheduled twinbill later Sunday afternoon.

McKendree will take a 4-18 overall record into a home game against Missouri Baptist University on Tuesday at Hypes Field. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.

Senior outfielder Brandyn Snider (Fielden, IL/Jersey Community) (Fielden, Ill./Jersey Community) and junior outfielder Patrick Thole (Carlyle, Ill./Breese Central) each collected four hits over the three games to lead the Bearcats' offense. Thole collected three hits in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader, while Snider posted two hits each in the suspended contest and game one on Sunday.

The teams picked up play in the suspended game with Lindenwood leading 1-0 in the fourth inning. The Bearcats tied the game in the sixth inning when freshman outfielder Kyle Rutledge (Bloomington, IL/Normal) (Bloomington, Ill./Normal) reached on a one-out single and scored on a sacrifice fly by senior infielder Ronnie Calvird (Farmington, MO/Park Hills Central) (Farmington, Mo./Park Hills Central).

However, the Lions pushed across the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning on a wild pitch.

Freshman right-hander Sam Jakaitis (Rochester, IL/Rochester) (Rochester, Ill./Rochester) was nicked for the loss, giving up an earned run over 2 2/3 innings of work.

Lindenwood left-hander Dylan Terrell provided the story line in game two by tossing a two-hit shutout as the host Lions opened Sunday's doubleheader with a 5-0 win. Snider was the only McKendree player to register a hit against Terrell with singles in the first and fourth innings.

After falling behind 2-0 in the nightcap, McKendree rallied with two runs in the third inning to knot the contest at 2-2. Freshman infielder Jacob Kline (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) led off with a single and moved to second when junior catcher Tom Collins (Collinsville, IL/Metro East Lutheran) (Collinsville, Ill./Metro East Lutheran) reached on an error. Two batters later, sophomore outfielder Tony Kossina (Millstadt, IL/Belleville West) (Millstadt, Ill./Belleville West) singled to load the bases.

Thole brought home Kline with an RBI single, and Snider tied the game when his fielder's choice grounder scored Collins with two outs.

The Lions plated a run in the fourth inning then held off threats by McKendree in the fifth and sixth innings to finish off the sweep.

Sophomore right-hander Jon Trampe (Collinsville, IL/Metro East Lutheran) (Collinsville, Ill./Metro East Lutheran) allowed just three hits over six innings in taking the loss. Trampe walked two and fanned four batters.
