(LEBANON, Ill., April 11)—The McKendree University baseball team was defeated at home Wednesday by the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 8-2.
The visiting Tritons scored three runs each in the seventh and ninth innings to break open a 2-2 and pull away for the victory. McKendree slips to 11-26 overall and will play host to Missouri Baptist University on Friday for a nine-inning contest beginning at 2 p.m.
Senior outfielder
Brandyn Snider (Fielden, IL/Jersey Community) (Fielden, Ill./Jersey Community) accounted for three of the Bearcats' six hits against UMSL starter Chris True, who picked up the complete-game victory. True allowed just one earned run with a walk and three strikeouts.
McKendree grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Snider led off with a single and moved to second on a groundout. Two batters later, freshman infielder Jacob Kline (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) ripped an RBI double to right-center field to plate Snider with the first run of the contest.
After UMSL grabbed a 2-1 lead in the second inning, the Bearcats rallied to tie the game an inning later. Freshman outfielder
Bryce Harre (Nashville, IL/Nashville) (Nashville, Ill./Nashville) led off with a single and moved to third on a Tritons' error. Harre scored on a groundout by sophomore outfielder
Tony Kossina (Millstadt, IL/Belleville West) (Millstadt, Ill./Belleville West) to knot the score at 2-2.
Missouri-St. Louis (15-16) put together a two-out, three-run rally in the top of the seventh inning to take the lead for good at 5-2. The Tritons then added three insurance runs in the ninth inning to seal the victory in the first meeting of the year between the two programs. McKendree and UMSL will square off again on May 2 in St. Louis. That game is slated to wrap up the Bearcats' 2012 campaign.
Sophomore right-hander
Jon Trampe (Collinsville, IL/Metro East Lutheran) (Collinsville, Ill./Metro East Lutheran) went 6 2/3 innings in taking the loss on the mound for McKendree. Trampe allowed just four hits and three earned runs. He walked five batters and fanned four.
