Balanced Attack Leads McKendree To 3-0 Shutout Win Over Illinois-Springfield

Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Sep. 14)- Three different players scored goals for McKendree University on Friday night in its conference home opener, 3-0, over University of Illinois at Springfield.

The Bearcats improved to 4-1 overall (2-1 GLVC) and will host No. 14 Quincy University on Sunday, Sep. 16 at 2:30 p.m.

Sophomore forward C.J. Cerna (Collinsville, Ill./Collinsville) put McKendree on the scoreboard in the 24th minute on a header from the right post off a corner kick by freshman midifelder Eddie Wilding (Felixstowe, Sussex, England/Doncaster College).

Junior midfielder Kavel Smith (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George’s College) added another score for the Bearcats off an assist from freshman forward Alex Ridsdale (Nelson, New Zealand/Mount Albert) in the 35th minute to extend the McKendree lead to 2-0 shortly before the half.

Freshman midfielder Dominic Plant (Newcastle, Staffordshire, England/Madelay) scored the final goal of the contest in the 73rd minute off a double-assist from Wilding and senior midfielder Mike Williams (Headcorn, England/Norton Knatchbull) to seal the 3-0 victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Scott Armistead (Auckland, New Zealand/Saint Peter's College) had six saves in the win and also earned his first collegiate shutout, while improving to 3-1 overall in the win.
