Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Sep. 14)- A goal in the 84th minute by freshman forward
Alyssa Patterson (Troy, Ill./Triad) helped the McKendree University women's soccer team to a 3-2 win over University of Illinois at Springfield on Friday evening.
The win helped the Bearcats improve to 3-0 (2-0 GLVC) and was head coach
Tim Strange's 199th as head coach of the women's program at McKendree. The team will be back in action on Sunday, September 16 when they host No. 19 Quincy University for a conference match at Noon.
Patterson scored her first of two goals in the match in the 23rd minute off an assist by senior forward
Carlee Luehmann (Granite City, Ill./Granite City) to put McKendree in front with a 1-0 lead.
Luehmann then scored off an assist by junior defender
Tara Kennedy (Waterloo, Ill./Gibault Catholic) in the 31st minute to extend the lead to 2-0, before Erin Egolf cut the lead in half with a goal for the Prairie Stars in the 32nd minute to make the score 2-1, where it stood at the break.
Egolf struck again in the 61st minute to tie the game, 2-2, and the contest appeared to be headed to overtime, until Patterson scored the go-ahead goal in the 84th minute off another assist by Luehmann to take a 3-2 lead and earn the win.
Junior goalkeeper
Maggie Dudas (St. Peters, Mo./Ft. Zumwalt South) grabbed three saves in the win and improved to 3-0 (2-0 GLVC) in goal this season.
