(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 27)--The McKendree University football team will look to break into the win column this Saturday when the Bearcats travel to Kentucky Wesleyan College for a Great Lakes Valley Conference tilt. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at Steele Stadium in Owensboro, Ky. The contest can be heard live on WIBV radio (102.1 FM) and the Bearcat Sports Network at

McKendree is 0-4 following a 45-15 loss last Saturday at the University of Indianapolis. Kentucky Wesleyan brings a 1-3 overall record into Saturday's action following a 47-23 loss on the road at Missouri S & T. Both teams will be in search of their first GLVC victory as each enters with an 0-2 league record.
Saturday's game will mark the first meeting between the two schools. McKendree has a 4-1 overall record against teams from the Commonwealth of Kentucky, including a 2-1 road mark. Both road wins came at Georgetown College -- one in 2002 and another in 2008. Kentucky Wesleyan will be opening a five-game homestand with Saturday's game against McKendree. The Panthers are celebrating the 30th season of modern football at the school as the program was revived in 1983.
The McKendree-Kentucky Wesleyan contest will also feature the two longest-tenured head coaches in the GLVC. The Bearcats' Carl Poelker is the dean of GLVC coaches as he is in his 17th season at McKendree and 31st overall as a collegiate head coach. Kentucky Wesleyan's Brent Holsclaw is second to Poelker in GLVC tenure as he is in his eighth season in Owensboro.
McKendree will return home next Saturday (Oct. 6) to host William Jewell College for Homecoming. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at Leemon Field. The Cardinals will be another first-time opponent for the Bearcats.
