Alex Ridsdale (Nelson, New Zealand/Mount Albert) scored in the 88th minute on Friday night to give the McKendree University men's soccer team to a 2-1 conference win over Lewis University.
The Bearcats improved to 6-3 overall and 4-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference after the win and will return to action on Sunday, September 30 in Kenosha, Wis., to face University fo Wisconsin-Parkside at Noon.
McKendree got on the board in the 22nd minute, when a shot by freshman midfielder
Liam Robley (Lazonby, Cumbria, England/Queen Elizabeth Grammar School) hit off the crossbar and freshman midfielder
Dominic Plant (Newcastle, Staffordshire, England/Madelay) put it in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. A goal by Lewis in the 44th minute tied the game 1-1 headed into the half.
The game appeared to be headed to overtime, but Ridsdale scored in the 88th minute off an assist by sophomore midfielder
Cody Fritsche (High Ridge, Mo./Lutheran South) to give the Bearcats the 2-1 win.
Freshman goalkeeper
Scott Armistead (Auckland, New Zealand/Saint Peter's College) improved to 4-3 overall and had two saves in the win.
