Box Score (LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 7)- The McKendree University men's soccer team lost its first Great Lakes Valley Conference soccer match on Friday, 2-1, at Maryville University.

The Bearcats fall to 2-1 overall (0-1 GLVC) and will travel back to St. Louis, Mo., on Sunday, Sept. 9 to face University of Missouri-St. Louis at 2:30 p.m.

McKendree fell behind, 1-0, in the ninth minute on a goal by Maryville's Nick Doherty. The Bearcats had two scoring chances in the first half, but both were saved by the Saints' goalkeeper and the one-goal deficit remained at the half.

Freshman forward Alex Ridsdale (Nelson, New Zealand/Mount Albert) and junior midfielder Kavel Smith (Kingston, Jamaica/St. George’s College) combined on an assist to Dominic Plant (Newcastle, Staffordshire, England/Madelay) who beat the Maryville goalkeeper and tied the match, 1-1, in the 53rd minute.

The Saints rebounded in the 56th minute and took a 2-1 lead on an unassisted goal by Matt Bearly. The Bearcats couldn't find the back of the net in the remainder of the second period and dropped the contest, 2-1.

Freshman goalkeeper Scott Armistead (Auckland, New Zealand/Saint Peter's College) fell to 1-1 overall, and had nine saves in the loss.
